Back in the spring, we told you about how Space Expedition Curacao (SXC) had teamed up with luxury social network Elysiants to offer space trips to wealthy tourists. Today we’re back with fresh news on how the project is evolving.
SXC has become a serious threat to Virgin Galactic, first of all because it offers space flights at much lower prices than Richard Branson’s company does. While a Virgin ticket to space is $200,000, tourists who will fly with SXC will only have to pay $98,000 for the experience. That’s less than half the Virgin price! In addition to that, SXC also offers their tourists the chance to co-pilot the ship (called Lynx).
The Lynx can reach speeds of up to 23,000 km/h (approx. 14,291 mph)and complete a Sydney-London flight in just a couple of hours. The space expedition will take passengers 100 km (62 miles) into the air, then offer a four-minute weightlessness experience and finally complete the one-hour flight by gradually gliding back to Earth. Quite a few celebrities and other rich people have already booked their places for the thrilling trip.
