It’s not exactly usual for an old 19th century church to be converted into a contemporary residence, but that’s exactly what a Swiss company named Evolution Design has managed to do in 2015. The residence in question is located in Middleton-in-Teesdale, England, and while its interior design is unquestionably modern and comfortable, its exterior has remained pretty much the one of a regular chapel.

The building was in a very poor shape and had been abandoned for quite some time, but the architects in charge of the project wanted to preserve its historical heritage as much as possible. They inserted a brand new mezzanine floor in order to implement three bedrooms upstairs as well as the living room, bathroom, fourth bedroom and the kitchen/dining area on the ground level. Well-lit, inviting and incredibly comfortable, the house gives off a feeling of elegance and fine taste, especially since some of its furnishings flaunt classic designs.
