Minimalist Ochs und Junior Moon Phase Patina Watch

Moon phase watches are always beautiful and exciting, because their complications bring an extra special appeal to them. It’s fun to see how designers find new ways of integrating the moon phase indicator into the timepiece’s design and come up with fresh concepts every time. One of the newest such watches is the Ochs und Junior Moon Phase Patina, with a simplistic yet very stylish design.

While other moon phase watches tend to have a rather intricate design, sometimes with miniature representations of the natural satellite or even real particles of dust from its surface, this particular model is all about simplicity – it doesn’t even feature the brand’s logo in any visible place.

The fact that the watch is crafted entirely from brass and titanium ensures a perfect visual contrast between the two metals which helps track the movement of the moon. Only 5 parts were used for this piece, but that was enough to ensure a whopping 3478.27 years of precision. Yes, this is the world’s most accurate moon phase indicator incorporated in a writwatch.

On the minimalist dial the wearer can easily see how much of the moon is illuminated every night, but also where it is positioned in relation to Earth and the Sun. Another really interesting feature is the date spiral, which is actually made up of 31 perforations and which is very easy to read, because the holes are aligned with the time indices.

The remarkable Ochs und Junior Moon Phase Patina is powered by an ETA 2824-2 movement and it comes with 42mm and 39mm cases. A silver version is also available, priced at 10,000 CHF (about $10,500). The titanium variant will only set you back 8,000 CHF (approx. $8,400). The company also offers lifetime insurance for the watch, which includes the case, the dial, the buckle, the crown and the gears. Only 300 units will be manufactured every year.
