Initially expected to sell for $20,000 to $30,000, this delicate cocktail dress worn by glamorous actress Marilyn Monroe in 1958 sold for $348,000 at a Julien’s Auctions sale on Sunday. The beautiful star wore the dress at a Beverly Hills Hotel party. You can also see her wearing the dress on the cover of a Michel Ventura book, called “Marilyn Monroe: From Beginning to End”.

The black crepe cocktail dress has a deep V-neck, a low-cut back and a pouf hemline. A label is sewn in the dress, reading “front”, which was a common addition to tailor-made dresses of the time. This is actually the only  identification in the dress.

Other Marilyn Monroe memorabilia sold on Sunday include a bra liner ($6,785), a Pucci ensemble ($48,000), an MGM one piece bathing suite ($84,000) and original negatives and transparencies ($73,800).
