How much do you think people are willing to pay for important pieces of movie memorabilia? Let us answer that question with this astonishing example: Marilyn Monroe’s iconic white dress from the “Seven Year Itch” movie has recently fetched a staggering $4.6 million.

The 1955 movie was incredibly famous for several reasons, and one of them was this surprisingly revealing scene. It was not common for women of that era to reveal too much of their skin, so it’s no wonder that this movie attracted thousands of men to cinemas when it was released.

Debbie Reynolds, Monroe’s co-star, kept the exquisitely crafted dress for many years, together with many other important movie history items in her collection. This year however she decided to sell them at auction for mind-numbing prices. Other famous pieces at the sale were Judy Galrand’s shoes from “The Wizard of Oz” ($1.75 million), Elizabeth Taylor’s racing clothes from “National Velvet” ($60,000) and Barbara Streisand’s  golden dress from “Hello, Dolly!”.
