You probably remember the fun buggy-style Volkswagen concept unveiled back in 2011 together with its exciting name: Buggy Up! The automaker has recently received a US design patent for the car, which tells us that it intends to bring the small vehicle closer to production.
Inspired by the ‘60s American beach buggies, the car has a modern design created by the head of VW design Klaus Bischoff together with Peter Wouda and Thorben Kochs. The two-seater is powered by a small 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine with 75 hp and it features a bikini-style fabric roof and a luggage rack over the trunk.
Even though Volkswagen has officially declared its intention of sending the fun Buggy Up! into production, the final decision depends on how the market research will go. The automaker is currently gauging people’s interest in the concept, so we will have to wait a little longer before finding out if the car will actually make it onto the assembly lines.
