One hundred museums have been built in Shanghai during this last decade alone. The total number of museums in the city is much bigger. The newest one is the fascinating Shanghai Museum of Glass, a temple of transparency built in a former glass factory in Baoshan District. This district is an industrial area where glass production has a rich history. In fact, a considerable part of China’s glass production over the years came from here.
Logon Architecture and Coordination Asia have worked together to create this unique museum that is itself a work of art. Glass dominates the entire building, as even the walls, the furniture and the floors are covered in black lacquered glass. Here you can find anything from glass sculptures to stained glass windows and various other historic uses of the material. This is definitely one place you have to see when you visit the most populous city in China.
