SAOTA (Stefan Antoni Olmesdahl Truen Architects) built this beautiful contemporary residence some 19 miles from Cape Town, on the beautiful western coast of South Africa. Its architecture, position and orientation were dictated by the breathtaking ocean views. Consequently, Melkbos Residence is generously open towards the coast and strategically opaque towards the street.
The linear organization of spaces permits each room to take full advantage of the magnificent panoramas, and sliding glass walls facilitate a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. Minimalism and functionality defines all rooms, but comfort and elegance also play an important role in the design.
