Zurich – The New Most Expensive City to Live In

Zurich – The New Most Expensive City to Live In

The Economist Intelligence Unit has carried out a survey on the worldwide cost of living. The survey compares the costs of living in 93 countries (40 cities) by taking into account the prices of 160 different products and services. These include household supplies, food, utilities, transport, and schooling. The results are quite surprising: apparently Zurich has reached the top of the list for the first time in two decades.

Tokyo was thus dethroned, but it still keeps the second position on the list, not allowing Geneva (another Swiss city!) to take all that was left of its pride. Geneva settled at number 3, showing the world just how expensive life can be in Switzerland. Part of the explanation for this situation is that the Swiss franc has been enjoying heavy investment lately.

Another surprise on the list was Hong Kong, which has been known for a long time to be one of the priciest cities to live in. This time, however, it didn’t even make it in the top ten: it ranked at 22. At the other end of the list we found a number of Asian and Indian cities like New Delhi, Tehran, and Mumbai. Below you have the list of the top ten most expensive cities to live in according to the aforementioned survey.

1. Zurich

2. Tokyo

3. Geneva

3. Osaka

5. Oslo

6. Paris

7. Sydney
