World’s Tallest Residential Garden To Be Built In Sri Lanka

The tallest residential vertical garden in the world is called Clearpoint Tower, and if all goes according to plan, it will be built by Mäga Engineering and Milroy Perera Associates just 6.2 miles away from Columbo’s center in Sri Lanka.

The building would feature 46 floors and 164 apartments, but what’s even more amazing is that the entire structure would be surrounded by planted viewing terraces that would be kept alive thanks to a “self-sustaining watering system”. Furthermore, since the climate of Sri Lanka is known for its hotness, the building should feature certain forms of sustainable cooling. The windows, for example, would be sheltered from direct sunlight thanks to a series of large-format terraces, while the apartments themselves would be cross-ventilated in order to cool off passively throughout the day.

Further sustainability would be ensured by solar panels placed on the roof of the building, which could  ensure much needed electricity for the building’s public facilities. There’s also been talk about an automated drip irrigation system that would recycle waste water from the apartments and use it in order to sustain the plants.

Clearpoint Tower is scheduled for completion in 2015, and when it will finally become a reality, it will represent a pinnacle of modern engineering and sustainable architecture.
