World’s Largest Building Has Been Officially Opened in China

The continuously growing economy of China is becoming more and more apparent. New millionaires are popping in every corner, while grandiose projects are changing the face of the country little by little. One such awe-inspiring project is the New Century Global Center in the Tainfu New District, Chengdu.

With attractions such as luxury retail outlets, a water park, a huge IMAX cinema, and much more, this is now the world’s largest freestanding building. It’s not a skyscraper, even though large-scale architecture is generally associated with this type of buildings, but a construction of vast proportions, both vertically and horizontally.

To help you understand just how big the new center is, try to picture something three times as big as the Pentagon in Washington D.C. Measuring 1,640 feet in length, 1,312 feet in width, and 328 feet in height, the New Century Global Center boasts 1.7 million square feet of space. This is roughly the size of 20 Sydney Opera Houses!

Officially opened on June 28, this huge building holds various hotels, business offices, family-themed attractions, shopping malls and even a faux Mediterranean village. It is pretty much a city within a city.
