Which Luxuries Are Worth the Splurge?

Which Luxuries Are Worth the Splurge?

If you are trying to save for a new home or have less work due to an economic downturn in your area, you probably don’t want to spend any extra money. However, if you skimp too much, you can develop frugal fatigue. Meaning, if you don’t loosen your grip on your purse strings, you could end up splurging for high-cost items you don’t need.

So, maybe you put aside some mad money to spend a little more on everyday items that make you happy. That way, you won’t feel deprived and can fend off cravings to spend your hard-earned cash on fancy items you can’t really use.

 Fresh Flowers

You can get fresh cut flowers for under $10 at most supermarkets and farmer’s markets. Flowers look and smell great and can boost your mood, so this luxury item won’t set you off course for whatever you’re saving up for…but it can make your home more put-together and welcoming.

Nice Watches and Necklaces

Jewelry and watches last a long-time, especially if you pay a little more for a name brand. A polished necklace or beautiful watch exudes style and opulence. If you like getting dressed up to go out, splurge for one or two high-end accessories that match multiple wardrobe items.

Flashy watches and pendants with gemstone are showstoppers, but simple, sleek design with an expensive-looking finish sends a vibe of understated elegance.

Sunglasses

Small items can make a big impact. On eyeglasses and sunglasses you wear on a daily basis splurge to get the pair that looks good, fits well and, of course, helps you see more clearly. You can dress to the nines, but accessorizing well puts to in a whole new category. Don’t be embarrassed to flaunt a brand name on shades that protects your eyes and raise your confidence level a few points.

Good Coffee

Usually, financial pundits are quick to point out that good coffee costs too much to splurge on. However, if this is something that delights you and helps you start your day out right, why not splurge on Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts once or twice a week. Nothing sends frugal fatigue packing like an alert shopper, so coffee isn’t the worse thing you can add to your small list of allowed luxuries.

Queen Size Mattress

If you are still squishing into a full size bed with your partner, it may be time to upgrade to a queen mattress size. This is especially true if you have back issues or other medical conditions that require special care in selecting your mattress and bedding. Getting a great night’s sleep is hardly a luxury, so spend your extra cash on a nice bed.

By splurging on luxuries, even everyday ones, you can feel sated and ready to sacrifice on big money vacations and fancy cars. It’s all a matter of perspective.
