Very Rare Islamic Gold Coins at Auction by Morton & Eden

Three extremely rare Islamic gold coins will soon be sold at auction by Morton & Eden auction house in association with Sotheby’s. The Important Coins of the Islamic World sale will take place on April 22, and it will certainly attract many numismatics enthusiasts. The three very early coins are expected to fetch over £350,000 (about $535,500), together.

Even though they are not dated, specialists believe that the coins date back to the times when the Muslims struck their very first gold coins. Due to their extreme rarity experts think that these were only issued in very small quantities. This adds to their appeal and exclusive character and justifies the huge presale price estimations.

Two of the three coins are believed to have been issued between 60-72h, while the third one shows the date of its issue: 77h (approx. 696/7 AD). The latter has a significant historical importance, which led to its image being featured on banknotes, stamps, and even credit cards across the Middle East. The sale will feature a total of 134 lots, all of them having been carefully selected to meet high standards of quality, historical importance, and rarity.
