The Most Expensive Porsche Sold for $4.4 Million

Porsche has just had its most expensive car sold at the incredibly successful Gooding and Company’s Amelia Island Auction. The record setter was a 917/30 Can-Am race car, one of only four ever built by the automaker. Boasting 1,000 horsepower, the ‘70s vehicle never actually got to be driven in a race. Still, it can reach the 62 mph threshold in only 1.9 seconds, and then it keeps rushing towards its maximum speed of 240 mph.

Only two of these beauties are currently in private hands, and this one completed Matthew Drendel’s collection for quite a while. At the aforementioned auction, this baby fetched a staggering £2.8 million (some $4.4 million), becoming the most expensive Porsche ever sold. Other superb vehicles sold at the event were a 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera RSR Turbo, which went for £2 million (over $3.1 million), and a 1955 Porsche 550/1500 RS Spyder that fetched £2.35 million (over $3.68 million). In all, the auction raised an impressive £23 million (approx.  $36 million).
