Fitted with six wheels, all of which provide excellent traction, this new off-road giant from Mercedes-Benz is a real stunner. It is based on the G320 CDI, but it’s much more awesome, sporting military-grade features. It is called Mercedes G63 AMG 6×6, and it was built to amaze. Everything about it is oversized, starting with the huge 37-inch wheels and ending with the overall weight of 3,775 kg (8,322 lbs).
The vehicle is spacious enough to comfortably transport 4 people, and it also has an open pic-up space in the back. The entire structure features reinforcement roll-bar elements for extra sturdiness. The new dimensions of the car are greater than before by 20 to 110 cm (7.8 to 43.3 in). More exactly, the military version of the SUV measures 5,867 mm (231 in) in length, 2,111 mm (83 in) in width, and 2,209 mm (87 in) in height. The new distance from the ground is of 46 cm (18 in).
And now for the power source. The Mercedes G63 AMG 6×6 no longer has the original 3.0-liter diesel engine mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission, but a tougher 5.5-liter 6×6 bi-turbo engine and a 7G-TRONIC automatic gearbox! The new powertrain provides 544 HP and 760 Nm of torque.
We are still waiting for the official performance figures to be announced, but according to Axel Harries, the head of the G-class development department, the car will be able to reach a maximum speed of 100 mph, and its 0-60 mph time will be lower than 6 seconds. Apparently the company plans to produce about 20 to 30 units every year, at a yet undisclosed price.
