The Innovative Ovator S-800 Loudspeaker from Naim Audio

After five years of intensive research, Naim Audio has finally unveiled the Balanced Mode Radiator (BMR) technology, as integrated into the new Ovator S-800 Loudspeaker. The BMR drive unit can handle both high and low frequency levels, which means that it does not need a separate tweeter, like other speakers.

Weighing 206 pounds, the Ovator S-800 speakers are 54.8 inches tall, and 20.5 inches wide, meaning that they are capable of making quite a statement in any room. Gloss Rosewood is only one of the many different color options available for this awesome product. It is available in two configurations: active and passive, and according to Naim, many customers prefer to start with the passive one and later upgrade to the active version.

The difference between the two lies in how each unit is connected to an amplifier. For best performance, each drive unit must be connected to a different amplifier, and there needs to be an electronic crossover between the pre amplifiers and power amplifiers. This happens in the active configuration, while the passive one has the crossover built into the die-cast aluminum plinth before being connected to a single amplifier. The price for this innovative piece from Naim Audio is £30,000 (about $47,000).
