Depending on their branding, their equipment or the materials used in their manufacturing, the price tags of bicycles range between very affordable to insanely expensive. Still, one can’t possibly expect a bike made out of gold to be anywhere near cheap, but when a standard set of bicycle wheels costs as much as a decent car, things get really interesting fast. The Gokiso wheel set was created by a company named Kondo Machine, and even though it is not made out of solid gold or platinum, it costs no less than $7,900.
For that price, bicycle enthusiasts get to ride on the world’s most expensive wheels but also the most efficient, as they boasts one-third less mechanical resistance when compared to the next-smoothest wheels on the market. This means that they can spin on a test rack for up to 6 minutes, while regular high-quality wheels will only go for about 90 seconds. The wheels were tested rigorously at speeds of up to 186mph and were made to run at 60mph, 10 hours a day for 100 days in order to measure their endurance.
