Located in located in Castiglioncello del Trinoro, Italy, this wonderful retreat is set in a picturesque landscape that’s part of the wonderful Tuscan countryside. It is called Monteverdi and it was only recently reopened (summer of 2012) after a painstaking restoration process that lasted for about 8 years.
We are talking about a whole medieval village that used to be almost entirely abandoned and which has been restored and revived thanks to the dedication and vision of Michael Cioffi, an American professor and lawyer. The settlement can be found near fabled wineries and superb gardens that make up a perfect backdrop for a memorable vacation.
Today the village flaunts a brand new hotel with 7 bedrooms, an informal Café, a beautifully restored 12th Century chapel, a nice outdoor swimming pool, and a soon-to-be-opened restaurant. For this bold project Cioffi collaborated with Ilaria Miani and Ernesto Bartolini of DA. Studio, who made sure that both the exterior and the interior of the buildings would be beautiful and inviting. The pictures below will give you a taste of this retreat’s unique charm, but nothing really compares to the real-life experience.
