The Amazing Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid

Impressed how the hybrid technology is making its way into increasingly more exciting cars? We are too! The latest example that we love is the new Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid, set to be launched as a 2015 year model. It boasts an irresistible combination of true racing spirit with uncompromising day-to-day utility. Created with responsibility and respect for the future, the hybrid supercar promises maximum performance with maximum efficiency.

What we really love about this concept is the fact that the hybrid technology actually comes with a series of driving dynamics advantages. Due to the introduction of separate motors for the rear and front axles, new driving technologies can be used to improve safety and stability at high speeds. The car’s sustainable character is really a plus, not a minus in this case.

The carbon fiber monocoque chassis ensures lightness and a low center of gravity, so that the driver can enjoy an excellent driving experience in any of the five driving modes: E-Power (18 miles on electricity alone), Hybrid, Sport Hybrid, Race Hybrid, and Hot Lap. Powering the two-seater is a 4.6-liter V8 mid-engine, a hybrid module on the rear axle, and an electric motor on the front axle. Together, they are expected to produce 887 hp.

The batteries are li-ion and they can be charged via a new plug-in system. You can use a conventional household electric supply for a 7-hour charging time, the Porsche Universal Charger for a 2-hour charging time, or the optional Porsche Speed Charging Station, which will fully charge the batteries in only 25 minutes!

Expected performance is 211 mph for the top speed, or 93 mph on electric power alone. The 0-62 mph time is 2.8 seconds, or 7.0 seconds on in electric mode. If you like to drive with zero emissions, your car will carry you around pollution-free for approximately 18 miles. With vehicles like this we really believe the future to be great in terms of eco driving!
