The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Has Finally Been Revealed

Everybody has been keenly anticipating the arrival of the new and glorious 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class, us included. And now, it is finally here, unveiling its sultry shapes and irresistible allure. The German automaker has accustomed us with luxury features that always merge style with comfort, and again the bar has not been lowered a bit. All that we’ve been expecting to discover and more is present in the new S-Class.

Slightly wider and higher than before, the car has kept its proportions pretty close to the previous generation’s. The slight increase, however, is welcomed and it doesn’t affect its weight too much either, because Mercedes used a lot of aluminum in its construction. Among the most remarkable design features you will definitely notice the sloping rear end, the dropping side line, and the larger radiator grille.

When the new S-Class will reach the States it will first come with the S550 model in September, followed by the S550 4Matic in November. We also expect the automaker to bring us an S63 AMG 4Matic version in the near future, and maybe even a plug-in hybrid. The S550 gets its juice from a twin-turbo V8 with 4.7 liters of displacement. It can reportedly put out 449 ho and 516 lb-ft of torque.

Curious what other features the car will boast? Well, according to Mercedes, there are plenty of awesome things to enjoy with the new S-Class, and here are just a few. The cabin has received a couple of new TFT screens measuring 12.3 inches each, and working as instrument cluster and ‘navitainment’ control panel. The navitainment system can be accessed from every seat of the car, and this even includes rear screens on which the rear passengers can follow the Google Maps. The driver also has access to a touch telephone keypad.

Another thing that we know you will love is the massaging system of the seats. The program is based on the “hot stone” technique, and each seat is equipped with 14 cushions that can be programmed to work in six different ways. Since we’re talking about seats, we should also tell you that there are 5 different options to choose from in the rear seats. If you want to go for the best of the best, you will get heel rests, calf support, and independently reclining backrests that can be inclined to about 45 degrees. The First Class Rear package also brings thermally-controlled cupholders and a rear console that allows passengers to control the front console.

For extra comfort, Mercedes also introduced an Air Balance Package that not only filters and ionizes the air, but also offers five different car fragrances to choose from. When the weather gets a little chilly, the Warmth and Comfort Package will ensure a perfectly enjoyable driving experience, warming up the steering wheel and armrests, as well as the actively ventilated seats.

The luxury automaker has done everything to ensure its clients’ satisfaction through something that they called “Intelligent Drive”. This concept brings together a series of advanced technologies and top-notch systems such as Active Lane Keeping Assist, Distronic Plus with Steering Assist, Active Parking Assist, Pre-Safe Brake with pedestrian recognition, Brake Assist Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist, and Night View Assist Plus. The list of things to enjoy with the new S-Class is even longer, but we reckon this may be enough to convince you that Mercedes-Benz has really done it again. Bravo!
