Surviving Long-haul Flights – How to Prepare

Spending any amount of time traveling can be quite boring if you do not have something to entertain you through it. If you have a long flight ahead of you, you need to be very well-prepared so that you do not get bored and so that the long hours spent in flight are not a complete waste of time. There are various things you can do to prepare yourself for a long-haul flight. Lucky for you, here you’ll find all that you need to be adequately prepared.

1- Pack a Travel Pillow

One of the most important things that you should take into consideration when you have a long flight ahead of you is your comfort. Chances are, you plan on getting some shuteye during the trip. This can be an unrealistic expectation if you are not comfortable enough to fall asleep. Even if you fall asleep without a pillow, you will end up feeling tired when you wake up because of the awkward angle you went to sleep in. Having a pillow can prevent cricks in your neck and will help you fall asleep faster when traveling.

2- Charge Your Electronics

In the past, it was not safe to use electronics in-flight. Nowadays, you can use electronics as you please as long as they are set to airplane mode. If you do not have your electronics charged, then you are in for one of the most boring flights of your life. You will not be able to play games, listen to music or work. If you often forget to charge your electronics or your smartphone’s battery charge drops quickly, then you can pack a power bank as a backup.

3- Download Videos

Videos are quite addicting and can be amazing entertainment, especially if you have a long flight. The issue is, to access videos on websites such as youtube, you need an internet connection, which is often not available during a flight. Instead of dealing with boredom, people have found ways of converting Youtube to mp4 so that they can enjoy watching their favorite videos without needing a constant internet connection. This also gives you a way to watch videos without having to deal with ads and loading.

4- Pack a Freshening-up Kit

After a couple of hours on a plane, you start to feel frumpy. Having a freshening-up kit can help you handle the rest of your flight. Usually, such a kit includes soap, a toothbrush, and toothpaste, and if you want to feel fancy, you can consist of a face mask or moisturizer. Having a kit can help you feel human again during a long flight that seems never ending.

5- Prepare Work to Finish in Flight

If you know ahead of time that your flight is going to be a long one, then you can set aside some work to finish during your flight. If you have nothing better to do, you might as well get work-related tasks out of the way during the flight. Try to set aside work that does not require the use of an internet connection so that you can finish as much as possible.

6- Pack a Book

If you are not into carrying around electronics, or if you do not have work to finish during your flight, you can simply pack a book that you’ve wanted to read. A book is a great way to entertain yourself on your flight, without having to carry around bulky devices that take up space at your seat, and can be a constant cause of stress because you are afraid that they might get stolen. Depending on what kind of books you like to read, you can find ones that you can finish reading during the flight.

7- Download Music

Listening to music is another great pastime when you are traveling for an extended period of time. You can prepare your own music playlist and even download the newest songs to check them out during your flight. If you are unsure what songs to download, you can simply start by checking out the lists of the top songs in your country as a start. You can also check out your favorite artists for new songs being released.

8- Pack Snacks

If your flight is long, then you will most likely receive a meal at some point during the flight. This does not necessarily mean that you cannot bring your own snacks. If you plan on watching videos or doing work, having food to snack on is going to make the experience much more enjoyable. Make sure to get all of your favorite snacks so that you do not run out of things to eat during your flight.

If you follow these eight tips, you will find that your supposedly long flight is over in no time. Remember that whatever you pack with your needs to fit into your carry-on bag if you want to keep it on your person during your flight. You can also adjust these tips to suit the purpose of your travels since they are quite flexible.
