Sony recently celebrated the 20th anniversary of its PlayStation console by organizing a special auction event in Japan. The auction was focused on selling about 12,300 special PlayStation 4 consoles, each featuring a superb retro-inspired theme. However, the No. 00001 console sparked on a bidding war that eventually ended when someone placed a bid of $129,000. Keep in mind that the bid started off at no more than $1.
The other units had price tags of $422, and even though they featured their own unique numbers as well, they could never hope to match the exclusivity of the first special edition PlayStation 4. Fortunately, Sony pledged to donate the earnings gained from the bidding extravaganza to charity.
