Second Shoshana Coin Auction to take Place in September

Passionate coin collectors from around the world will have the privilege of buying some of the most remarkable ancient Jewish coins in existence on September 5, 2012. The auction will be held in Long Beach, California by Heritage Auctions, and it will offer an impressive number of over 600 lots (individual coins and groups of coins), including some of the rarest zuzim, selas and shekels on the globe.

This is actually the second half of the remarkable Shoshana Collection of Ancient Judaic Coins, the first one having been sold on March 8-9 in New York earlier this year. The previous sale amazed the coin collectors’ world when the Year 1 “Prototype” shekel fetched a staggering $1.1 million. The total sales of the event were of $7.6 million.

The Shoshana Part II sale will span the entire history of Judean coinage, starting from circa 500 BC (the Persian Period) to circa AD 1100 (the Medieval times). Described by David Hendin, the author of Guide to Biblical Coins, as “the greatest collection of ancient Judean coins ever brought to public attention”, this auction is not something a diehard collector can afford to miss.
