Roman Abramovich’s Wealth Statement

Because Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich plans on running for governor of Chukotka again, he has recently been obliged to reveal his stunning wealth. So thanks to the Russian anti-corruption laws, we now have a better understanding of just how wealthy this successful businessman is. Or at least that’s what should happen. The only problem is there are some properties that didn’t even make it on the list, as one can easily notice.

For instance, even though the Eclipse is part of the declaration (but not part of the list published for elections), the other motor yachts that he owns have not been mentioned, and neither have many of his cars or aircrafts. The list does contain however a four-years-old Volkswagen Golf. Err,  is that the most important vehicle to mention in a wealth statement?

Anyway, among the other properties that made it on the list we mention the four homes in Russia, the three ones in France, the two in the States, and six flats and a house in Britain. The declaration also mentions over £25 million held in shares and £72 million in bank accounts. Of course, all this stirred a lot of controversies and criticism, especially in Russia, where people say things like “It looks like he’s investing most of all into English property – why doesn’t he take part in the elections in England?”.
