The 18K pink gold Rolex Oyster Perpetual has a rich, personal history. Owned by India’s first president, Dr Rajendra Prasad, this magnificent, rare timepiece was offered to him on the first Republic Day, back in 1950. The map of India, including the corridor of land which links this country to Afghanistan and Nepal, are drawn on the dial, together with the inscription “26th January, 1950”.
This luxurious piece will find a new owner at the Sotheby auction next month. The estimated price varies between $222,000 and $444,000. About 270 other valuable and rare timepieces from the WWI will go under the hammer at this auction in Geneva on the 13th November. These unique pieces are expected to bring in more than $8.9 million.
