Even though the whole world waited with great anticipation to see Kate Middleton’s wedding dress, it seems that the royal bride’s sister was the one who had a greater impact on this year’s brides to be. Yes, we all stood in awe at the sight of the superb wedding gown of the princess, but “the ivory dress worn by Pippa is the most requested by far”, according to Alain Mehada, the chief personal shopper at the Debenhams.
The Oxford Street store’s response to this? They decided to create a lovely replica of the dress and sell it for a very alluring price: only £170 (approx. $280), which is considerably less than what the original dress cost – £20,000 (approx. $33,000). Even though the replica is not a mirror image of the original (it has the signature buttons on the back and the cowl neck, but it lacks the delicate detailing on the sleeves and neckline), the demands for the gown are so high that Debenhams was forced to create a “lady-in-waiting list”. This means that brides can order their dream-dress even before its official launch later this year.
For the ladies who are not yet getting married but still love Pippa’s fashion style, Debenhams also created a replica of the royal bridesmaid’s reception evening gown, the elegant emerald green Alice Temperley dress that Pippa wore at Buckingham Palace. The replica is priced at £99 (approx. $160). Finally, for the package to be complete, the copy of Pippa’s gown can be sold together with an adorable flower girl dress that will retail for between £48 and £52 (approx. $78 and $85), depending on the girl’s age.
