Lee Harvey Oswald’s Gold Wedding Band for Auction

Thirty to fifty thousand dollars is the estimated price for Lee Harvey Oswald’s gold wedding ring. The auction will be held in Boston by RR Auction, almost 50 years after Oswald’s assassination of President John F. Kennedy. The infamous assassination took place on November 22, 1963, and two days later the killer was also shot dead by club owner Jack Ruby during a transfer from police headquarters to the county jail.

Oswald’s wedding band was confiscated by the police after the shooting, and it was lost in the system until 2004, but it was not until eight years later that his former wife, Marina Oswald Porter, was informed of its existence. Because Mrs. Porter did not want the wedding band in her possession, she decided to sell it at auction.

She said: “At this time of my life, I don’t wish to have Lee’s ring in my possession because symbolically I want to let go of my past that is connecting [me] with Nov. 22, 1963.”

She remarried many years ago and is now very happy to be a grandmother. The buyer of the ring will also receive a hand-written letter from Mrs. Porter, in which the story of the ring is thoroughly explained over five pages. An interesting fact about the gold wedding band is that Oswald had left it in a cup next to his wife’s bed before he went out to kill the president.
