The Largest White Truffle In The World Is Worth $1 Million

Chefs are well aware of the importance of truffles, especially the white truffle variety, which is relatively rare. The world’s largest white truffle weighs in at 4.16 pounds, and it was discovered recently in Italy’s Umbrian region. This record-breaking truffle is nearly twice the size of the one that was sold in 2010 for $417,200, which means that it could very well fetch close to $1 million when it will be put under the hammer at Sotheby’s in New York.

What makes white truffles so expensive apart from their unique taste is the fact that they are quite difficult to find. Teams of hunters helped by trained dogs are tasked with finding this exquisite culinary treat during the last four months of every year, so as you can probably imagine, uncovering such a large truffle is a monumental achievement.
