John Lennon’s Dorinish Island Now for Sale: €30,000

Another private island has emerged on the market. Like many others, this one too was once owned by a celebrity, which makes it quite appealing indeed. Its name is Dorinish Island, aka Beatle Island. Yes, you’ve guessed it: this beautiful property was once owned by a Beatles member, namely John Lennon.

Apparently he and Ono Yoko spent some truly amazing moments here, in Clew Bay, Ireland. They even thought about building a nice cottage on the island, but never really got the chance to materialize their dream. Nevertheless, they felt that “It was so beautiful, so tranquil, yet so isolated; it seemed a perfect place to get away from it all” (Ono).

Lennon bought the property (which is actually made up of two islands connected to each other by a natural stone causeway) in 1967 for only £1,700 (approx. $2,700) at an auction. Four years after his demise, Ono sold the whole 19-acre island for about £30,000 ($48,000). The views it boasts are stunning from every angle, so this would make an excellent spot for a superb vacation home.

It is currently used by local farmers who take their sheep there for grazing. However, they fear that as they get older, taking care of the livestock will become increasingly harder, so they are now hoping to find an interested buyer for Dorinish Island. Its price is €300,000 ($384,000).
