How To Improve Your Memory

The brain is probably the body’s most important organ. Because of its complex ability to store memories, thoughts and information, humans would be lost without a properly functioning brain. How do you keep something you cherish so much in tip-top shape as you age, and your body starts declining? While taking memory enhancer supplements can provide added benefits and nutrition for your brain, there are other lifestyle choices you can make to ensure your brain’s ability is strengthened for years to come.

1. Make sure you’re staying physically active.

Humans have adopted extremely sedentary lifestyles. From jobs that sit in one location every day, to sitting on your couch and binging your favorite show, it’s no secret you sit more than your ancestors did because of societal changes. However, that doesn’t mean you can avoid physical activity. Being active increases blood flow to your whole body – including your brain. Increased blood flow keeps your body activated and alive which triggers healthier muscles and organs. If you can’t find time to do a full 30-minute or more workout, try and get mini bursts of movement in. You could walk 10 minutes a few times a day or check out health-related apps with a lot of quick workout ideas.

2. Make sure you’re staying mentally active, too.

While working out does get blood flowing to your brain, mental stimulants are extremely important, too. Find ways to relax, pass time or find enjoyment that keeps your brain buzzing. You could do crossword puzzles, word searches or read before bed. They say if you don’t use it, you lose it, and that statement rings true for your brain. The more you’re actively engaging and stimulating its daily use, the better off your brain will be in the long run.

3. Make sure you’re staying organized.

When you have papers strewn around your house or clutter everywhere, it’s a lot harder to remember anything. The more organized you can be from your belongings to your daily schedule, the better your brain can compartmentalize and sort everything out. Keep to-do lists, write down notes to yourself and look for ways to eliminate multi-tasking. The more your brain sees a rhythm or plan to your daily routine and surroundings, the better it can keep up with your busy lifestyle. Face it – your brain does a lot for you every day. Take away some of its burden by staying organized.

4. Make sure you’re eating well.

They say you are what you eat, and if you want your brain to function well, you have to feed it well. Eating fruits, vegetables, high-protein and high-fiber foods will all give your brain necessary nutrients to stay healthy. High sugar and fatty foods just weigh you down.

It’s no secret that as you age, you will see changes in your body. Maybe you’re less flexible, or you can’t walk as fast as you once did. While aging is a part of life and something to look forward to because it means you’ve lived a long fruitful life, there are ways you can keep your brain as young as possible for as long as possible.
