Renovated with utmost skill and attention to detail by Batay-Csorba Architects, the Hazelton Residence 1 was completed in 2014 in Toronto, Canada. It boasts 4,000 square feet of living space and was originally designed by Barton Myres in 1983. It now features 4-stories and includes a pair of double height spaces that are flooded with natural light throughout the day. The first volume was inserted along the rear façade and links the lower two floors. The second volume is located at the core of the top two levels and features a skylight.

Below the skylight, the kitchen offers plenty of opportunities for socialization and entertainment. The old front façade was left untouched in order to blend in with the street’s period architecture, while the additional volume at the rear of the lot enjoys views of an old spruce tree and flaunts floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors that fade the limits between the interior and exterior spaces.
