Greece has found a very interesting solution to their fragile economic situation. Its ministry of culture has decided to rent out some of the country’s most famous monuments, starting with the iconic Acropolis. Being an archeological site with an overwhelming historical importance, the Acropolis will be leased only for certain purposes (like photo shoots).Renting the place will also come with a number of rules that need to be respected in order to preserve the site’s integrity.

The Acropolis is a World Heritage Site, so it’s not difficult to see why some archeologists are not very happy with the government’s decision to rent it out. However, the ministry of culture assures critics that this decision is meant to help the country’s economy. Apparently all the money raised from renting these important sites will be used for the monuments’ maintenance, thus easing the government’s efforts of raising cash for this purpose. People will be able to rent the Acropolis for as little as €1,600 per day, which is only a little over $2,000 per day.
