Gaddafi was the official ruler of the Libyan Arab Republic until 1977 and then the “Brother Leader” of the Libyan Arab Jamahiriya until August this year. What we didn’t know was the fact that he was the richest man in the world, according to a statement made by senior Libyan officials in a LA Times article. His over $200 billion wealth was distributed in real estate, banks (the Central Bank of Libya and the Libyan Investment Authoriry) and corporate investments all over the world.
It is believed that he made his fortune from the oil reserves in Africa, over which he had exclusive control for the last 41 years. He did not invest in hospitals or schools, but used his money to purchase the support of several African leaders. He was quite a prudent and tough-minded man, don’t you think?
