Cool Volkswagen CrossBlue Coupe Concept at Shanghai

Remember the seven-seat CrossBlue Concept that was recently unveiled by Volkswagen at this year’s Detroit Auto Show? Of course you do! A stunner like that cannot be easily forgotten. What it can do, however, is receive a totally awesome coupe version to keep fans very excited.

Even though this is nothing like an ordinary coupe, the new Volkswagen CrossBlue Coupe Concept is smaller than the original version and can only transport 5 passengers. It has just been unveiled at the ongoing Shanghai Motor Show with a really sexy golden paintjob and a pretty impressive fuel economy report.

The car draws its power from three sources: a gas-fueled V6 under the hood (capable of 295 HP), and two electric motors, one placed at the rear and the other one at the front. Together, all three motors generate a nice output of 415 HP. The result is an impressive 5.9 seconds for the 0-60 mph sprint, and a top speed of 147 mph.

As for the aforementioned fuel efficiency of the new coupe, it reportedly looks like this: 79 mpg on the European combined cycle, which is not exactly relevant for us in the US, but which is nonetheless pretty cool. The concept boasts a range of 720 miles and it can go for about 21 miles on electric power alone. A strong 9.8-kWh li-ion battery provides the necessary power to accomplish that.

Now that we’ve seen two awesome CrossBlue concepts, we’re kind of ready to see a nice production version as well. We hope Volkswagen is too.
