Christie’s to Sell £1.5 Million Worth of Photographs in London

On May 15 Christie’s will offer numerous outstanding artistic photos during its London Sale of Photographs. The highlight of the event will be a set of 14 gelatin silver prints that have spent over a decade on the walls of Nord Pinus Hotel in France. Why there? Because most of them were commissioned by the owner of the hotel, photography collector Anne Igou.

The collection includes oversized creations by Peter Beard, including Elephant reaching for the last branch on a tree ‘End-Game’ trip through Tsavo, June 1960, which is expected to fetch between £40,000 and £60,000 (approx. $61,000 and $91,700). Collectors will also have the opportunity to bid for a carefully selected group of fashion and contemporary photographs, as well as remarkable nature shots.

Among the many important artists represented at the auction there will be Horst P. Horst, Helmut Newton, David LaChapelle, and Henri Cartier-Breson. In all, the sale will include 108 remarkable lots valued at between £1,500 and £70,000 ($2,290 and $107,000), which may result in a total sale success of £1.5 million (about $2,290,000).
