2010 has been a great year for Christie’s in terms of watch sales. It actually was the best one they had so far. They sold everything from a very affordable $99 antique Minerva pocket watch to the most expensive timepiece of the year, a Patek Philippe gold chronograph Reference 1527. The precious piece was made in 1943 and it went for $5.7 million, probably to the Patek museum in Geneva.
Other sales of 2010 include rarities like the $706,000 one-off by Daniel Vaucher, and quite a few expensive Pateks like the $1.28 million diamond one. Actually the first eight out of the ten most expensive watches sold at Christie’s last year were Pateks. Five of them fetched over $1 million.
So what was the final outcome? A whopping $91 million of watch sales. A really impressive new record!
