Breitling’s Chronomat Airborn Was Unveiled At High Altitudes

Breitling is a well-known Swiss watchmaking company that is particularly famous for its ties with the aviation industry. Ever since it was founded in 1884, Breitling has been striving to supply aviators with some of the most reliable and beautiful watches, and now in 2014, the brand carries on this tradition with a new timepiece called Chronomat Airborne.

The Chronomat Airborne was unveiled in a rather special way at an altitude of 35,000 feet, onboard an Emirates A380 aircraft. The piece was showcased on September 1, which also marks the anniversary of 3 decades since the first Chronomat model was ever launched.  The timepiece features a beautiful satin-brushed bezel that includes 4 raised rider tabs. These tabs can be used by the pilots to measure flight times, and since they are raised, they allow the user to rotate the bezel easily even if he is wearing gloves.

The watch comes with 41 or 44mm cases, both of which are made out of steel. The back of each case flaunts a special engraving that says “Edition Spéciale 30e Anniversaire”, and it also showcases the silhouette of an Aermacchi airplane. The dial can be silver with black counters or black with silver counters, while the strap is made using a military-type fabric that ensures reliability and comfort. Powering the Chronomat Airborn is a Manufacture Breitling Caliber 01 self-winding movement that boasts COSC certification.
