Clark Gable’s 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing Coupé for Sale

Besides his passion for acting, legendary movie star Clark Gable also had a special place in his heart for excellent cars. His collection was impressive and now one of the last vehicles that he owned until his unfortunately and untimely demise is ready to go under the hammer.

It is a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Gullwing Coupé, bought by the star himself from a Mercedes-Benz branch in Hollywood. Only 1,400 examples of this model were ever created, and this one’s excellent mechanicals were carefully maintained over the years by the automaker itself. Beautifully restored by Paul Russel, the car will be put to sale at Barret-Jackson’s 2013 Scottsdale auction.

This particular unit features Nardi steering wheel, rare Rudge knock-off wheels, fitted luggage, and also the signatures of Clark Gable himself and his beautiful wife Kay Spreckels Gable. The movie legend had had the opportunity to drive and enjoy this beautiful car for approximately five years before he died of a heart attack in 1960.
