Now that school is over and the kids are itching for some fun family time, you need to come up with something to keep the whole family entertained, yet still practice social distancing. Although your options are limited, there are still a bunch for great activities that you can plan with your family. Here are four fun to plan events that are sure to keep the whole family engaged and amused.

A Day At The Park

Most parks are open, and you and your family can take advantage of the open space to plan a fun filled day. First, pick a park that has a lot to offer. Many parks have trails for hiking, play areas for the little ones, large grass fields for sporting activities, and picnic areas. By utilizing everything the park has to offer, you can have fun from dawn to dusk.

Start off the day with an energetic hike through the woods. Then relax on a bench while the kids chase each other around the playground. You can then have a family soccer game, followed by a barbecue of hot dogs, hamburgers and chicken. After lunch, you can fly a kite, take a run on a fitness trail, or just lay out on a blanket. If you stay late enough, catching fireflies is always a crowd pleaser.

Photo Scavenger Hunt

If you are looking to do something on a rainy day, and still get out of the house, planning a photo scavenger hunt can be enjoyable for everyone. This activity takes a little extra planning. You need to come up with a list of items that the kids need to find and take a picture of while you drive them around town or a planned road trip. If you are playing with small children, either team them up with an older child who has a cell phone or lend them yours.

The object is simple, the team that finds the most items on the list wins. Someone is designated as the judge and reviews the pictures that were taken. Letting the winning team decide what dinner will be is a good reward, they can pick someplace for takeout or outside seating where social distancing can still be observed.

Rock Climbing

A great outdoor activity that is fun for the whole family is rock climbing. Regardless of skill level, rock climbing can be done by everyone in your party. There are lots of places that offer rock climbing and a simple search of the internet will get you the names of locations near you. Most, if not all, of these facilities offer lessons and equipment, so just jump in the car and get ready for a pleasurable day.

If you have never been, rock climbing can be a full body workout, while providing good times for all. Start simple and work your way up to more difficult courses. Watching others in your party attempt to climb is part of the fun.

Dine-In Movie

If you want to practice social distancing to its fullest and not leave your house, you can still have a great time by planning a dine in movie night. For this you will need to purchase a projector, which is available from a variety of online retailers, a white bed sheet, and patio or beach chairs.

Setup is quick and easy. Simply find a large, flat surface, such as the side of the house or along a fence and attach the white bed sheet with rope or tape. Position the projector so that the images appear on the sheet, hook up your playing device (cell phone, DVD, etc.) and just wait for the sun to go down. Adding a non-messy, easy to eat meal, such as sandwiches and chips, turns the movie experience into an instant dinner and show.

Just because you are practicing social distancing does not mean you have to give up quality family fun. You might just need to think outside the box, but there are still plenty of ways to keep yourself and the family engaged and active.
