2014 Bentley Continental GT

The 2014 Bentley Continental GT debuted in grand fashion at the Detroit auto show earlier this year. Primarily showcased at the event was the Continental GT Speed Convertible. However, the open-air version shares the same specs and attributes as the Continental GT Speed.

Need For Speed

Make no mistake, the Continental GT is a road rocket no matter which form it is in. Powered by a 6.0 liter W12 engine with twin turbochargers, the Continental gets 616 horsepower and nearly 600 pound feet of torque at only 2,000 RPMs. Bentley claims the car can go from zero to 60 mph in just over 4 seconds and up to 100 mph in 9.7 seconds. The car’s top speed is a little over 200 mph. Considering the 5,500 lb weight of the Continental, those are pretty impressive numbers! The standard transmission is an 8-speed automatic with a full-time all-wheel drive system.

Design Lines

Design-wise, the Continental features leather upholstery and wood veneer trim on the dash and control areas. Outside, chrome and mesh dominate the grill and ground effects. Wheels are 21 inches and available in either dark or bright silver finishes. The convertible is a power top with 4-layer fabric and one-touch activation. The vehicle on display in Detroit featured slate blue interior with off-white seats, while the outside is a brighter blue.

Other Features

Fulfilling nearly any kind of expectation, the 2014 Bentley Continental features a variety of luxurious features such as neck warmers in the front bucket seats, which might make top-down driving more attractive in colder temperatures. Navigation and infotainment systems are also standard and audiophiles will appreciate the upgrade of a custom Naim audio system. For those most concerned about performance, the Continental offers a Sport mode for the transmission that sharpens response times and calibrates shift points.

The 2014 Bentley Continental GT is expected to be ready for sale this summer. Prices have not yet been set, but the rumor is that they will be up to $20,000 more than the 2013 Bentley. The price tag for that car was $225,725 for the base model.
