Tasteful Gold Watches By H. Moser & Cie. And F.P. Journe

Nobody’s saying not to wear a gold watch but it’s generally a good idea to steer clear of those that are exaggeratedly decorated.  A gold watch doesn’t need to be extravagant to make a statement, and it’s always nice to see that some watchmaking companies understand this and act accordingly. For example, H. Moser & Cie.’s Endeavour Perpetual Calendar Black Golden Edition is a tasteful timepiece that boasts an 18-carat gold dial as well as the brand’s well-known fumé adornment. This decoration matches beautifully with the watch’s mirror polished case made out of titanium, which houses a hand-wound caliber HMC341 movement.

The movement itself is surrounded by solid plates and bridges that flaunt handmade engravings as well as matte finishes. The hour markers and the numerals found within the date window are also made out of luxurious gold, but the watch appears to include more black elements overall rather than golden ones, especially if we take the black leather strap into consideration.

Three of François-Paul Journe’s timepieces definitely deserve a mention as well. We’re talking about the Chronomètre Souverain, Octa Lune and Octa Réserve pieces, all of which feature rose gold movements as well as 40mm cases in red gold or platinum. The first piece requires manual winding while the other 2 are automatic. They are quite a feast for the eyes, wouldn’t you agree?
