More than a bicycle, this is actually a work of art made entirely out of wood. We’ve seen wooden bikes before (remember the Audi Duo? ), but not one that featured no plastic, rubber or metal at all. What you see in the pictures is the SplinterBike weighing a whopping 31 kg (approx. 68 lbs).
The man behind the project is Michael Thompson and he assures us that his job was not an easy one. However, he managed to put together this unique bike and he proudly announced that it can reach a max speed of 31 mph. The drivetrian is of course different from what you have on an ordinary bicycle, because a wooden chain was not exactly the best option for Thompson.
His intention is to break a speed record with this creation, but whoever will test it should be aware of the fact that the SplinterBike has got no brakes. Would you buy this one-gear bike?
