During one of Sotheby’s latest auctions, a fabulous Jaquet Droz Singing Bird Scent Flask was sold for the staggering sum of $2,530,000, which made it the priciest antique ever sold at auction by Jaquet Droz. The pear-shaped item has exquisite enamel finishes as well as gorgeous jewels, and it includes a 12mm tall representation of a nightingale at its core. Thanks to a complex, mini-organ, the small bird appears to be singing, but the image is actually just a very good illusion.
The dial of the watch comes in white enamel, and it flaunts roman numerals as well as golden hands that are animated by a gilt brass movement. The face of the timepiece and the small window that surrounds the bird feature half pearls and exquisite rubies, while the border of the piece boasts a gold paillon adorned with arabesque details inspired by 16th century Europe.
The fabulous device was made in 1786 and is undoubtedly one of the most amazing Jaquet Droz creations.
