Record-Breaking Blue Moon Diamond Was Sold For $48 Million

Record-Breaking Blue Moon Diamond

Diamonds usually sell for millions of dollars depending on their size, color and quality, but it’s still quite mind-boggling to hear about a precious stone that managed to fetch $48 million at auction. All that money was spent for a relatively small stone that sits on a golden ring. We truly live in incredible times, don’t you agree?

Record-Breaking Blue Moon Diamond

Dubbed “Blue Moon Diamond”, this beautiful blue diamond is currently a world record holder, and it was auctioned off in Geneva by Sotheby’s. It was purchased by a private collector from Hong-Kong, who already renamed it to “The Blue Moon of Josephine” in honor of his seven-year-old daughter. Weighing in at 12.03 carats, this is the world’s first gemstone to feature a worth of more than $4 million per carat, which is quite the achievement in itself.
