Moraga Vineyards Estate Bought by Billionaire Rupert Murdoch

As if fabled media mogul Rupert Murdoch didn’t already have it all, he recently made a new addition to his collection of things to be happy about. His Twitter followers found out last week that the 82 year old billionaire was “about to celebrate buying beautiful small vineyard right in LA”.

He did not mention the purchasing price, but we know that the 16-acre property had been listed at $29.5 million. For a man with a net worth of around $11 billion, this sum is really just a trifle. The name of the estate is Moraga Vineyards, and it is located just above the upscale Bel Air neighborhood, on a beautiful hilly land.

This was reportedly the first commercial winery which, after the Prohibition, was bonded in the city of Los Angeles. It also used to be a horse ranch, when it belonged to film director Victor Fleming. Another noteworthy former owner of the estate was Tom Jones, who purchased it back in 1959. Murdoch himself seems to be very proud of the property history of celebrity owners, as he also added this to his tweet: “Great wine, Moraga, owned by great Angelino, Tom Jones. Time cover, 1961!”
