John Lennon’s First Ferrari to Be Sold by Bonhams

When you got your driver’s license, how many luxury car manufacturers tried to convince you that their rides were the best and that you should buy one of them? If you are a normal, average person, the correct answer to that is question “Yeah, right…” But that’s not what John Lennon would say if he were still with us today.

After he passed the driver’s test, the news spread quickly and various automakers contacted him with tempting offers. Finally, his choice was a Ferrari 330GT 2+2 Coupe from 1965, a superb vehicle for a 25 year old star. He paid £6,500 for the blue car with matching blue interior. The equivalent of that sum today is £110,000 or some $170,000 – not bad for a first car, eh?

Thanks to Bonhams, passionate car collectors and diehard fans of the Beatle singer will have the rare privilege of buying this car for themselves. The Ferrari has been fully restored to its original glory, which even includes the original license plates. This was a limited edition creation, of which only 500 units were ever produced. Consequently, the auction that will take place on July 12 will stir quite the bidding war. Presale estimates are between £180,000 and £220,000 (approx. $278,000 and $340,000).
