Gorgeous Maserati 300S at Goodwood Festival of Speed

One of the best lots that will be auctioned off in July at the Goodwood Festival of Speed is a remarkable Maserati 300S, the third one ordered by collector Briggs Swift Cunningham. Chassis no. 3053 was commissioned by the American racer for this friend and team driver Bill Spear. In 1955, Spear drove the car together with Sherwood Johnston at the 12 Hours of Sebring endurance race, where it took the third place.

The following year the car was sold to Joe Giubardo, who kept it until 1964. From then until 1986, when it was purchased by Dr. Thomas Bscher, the sports car was ownedby Maserati authority Joel Eric Finn. The following decades it remained under Bscher’s care, and it enjoyed excellent maintenance. Its next buyer was the present seller, so now all interested bidders know just how many hands the car changed before reaching Bonhams.

The historic vehicle is powered by a3-litre, 6-cylinder engine and is excellent for track or road use, as Bonhams Group Motoring Director, James Knight assures interested customers. Boasting impeccable handling, this Maserati 300S is “one of the easiest, nicest, best-balanced sports-racing cars ever made”, according to Sir Stirling Moss. Connoisseurs will definitely agree.
