Dazzling Archduke Joseph Diamond to Be Sold by Christie’s

Famous, glamorous, and priceless, this 76-carat Golconda diamond is a white diamond of nearly perfect clarity, a gem that many ladies dream of. It was discovered in India’s Golconda mines, this being the same pace where other iconic diamonds, such as Koh-i-noor, Regent, and Hope were also found. It is known as the Archduke Joseph Diamond, called so in honor of Archduke Joseph August Viktor Klemens Maria (1872-1962) of the Habsburg Dynasty.

The gem was part of a Christie’s auction back in November 1993 in Geneva, when it fetched an impressive $10 million, and this November it will again be offered for sale by the same auction house. Reports say that this beauty is the largest and most spectacular Golconda diamond ever to have been auctioned, so we can only expect it to go for a mind-boggling sum again.

After the sale will take place on November 13, the fabulous Archduke Joseph Diamond will go on an exhibition tour, reaching Geneva, New York and Hong Kong. It will definitely impress all connoisseurs, as Christie’s sais that “Golconda diamonds have a special whiteness often described as soft, watery and pure, so that light appears to pass through the stone completely unimpeded”. What a view it must offer!
