When $20,000 is Worth $21,350

When $20,000 is Worth $21,350

Modern art is so free and unconventional that it’s often difficult to even recognize it as art. Take for instance this creation (if we can call it that) of Denis Beaubois, called “Currency”. It’s basically a stack of $100 bills, totaling $20,000. Not a bow, not a brush stroke, not a crystal more, just a stack of money.

The description (or maybe just a justification) of this work is “a conceptual project that explores the tension between the economic value of the material, against the cultural value of the art object”. Still not convinced yet? Well, it doesn’t even matter if you are, because someone else already bought the bundle of money for $21,350 at the Deutscher and Hackett’s auction house in Melbourne.
