Transition: The Flying Car from Terrafugia

Transition The Flying Car from Terrafugia (2)

Terrafugia Inc., a small privately held corporation in America created the first flying car that received regulatory clearance from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. That means that the vehicle will be allowed to take the road, just like any other car. According to the Massachusetts-based company, no other flying car ever received “such special consideration from the Department of Transportation since the Federal, Motor Vehicle Safety Standards came into being in the 1970s”.

Called the Transition, the vehicle will feature a polycarbonate windshield and not the regular laminated safety glass that normal cars use. The tires will be special too: they will have to be strong enough to face landing, but they will also be much lighter than other tires in their class.

After having received the exemption from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Transition went through several test flight and will most probably enter production sometime next year.
